This is your starting place to determine which valve or injector is best suited for your application. Follow the steps to arrive at the product number.

Two position selectors and switching valves

As their name implies, two position valves operate in only two positions: Load and Inject, or Position A and Position B, etc.

Selectors (multiposition valves)

Selectors step incrementally through continuous revolutions, with a variety of flow configuration choices from simple stream selection to trapping. Most are also available with the built in purge feature.

Valco rotary valves

The industry standard for nearly 50 years. Medium and high temp models are available with 4, 6, 8, or 10 ports, with fittings for 1/32", 1/16", 1/8", or 1/4" tubing. Internal sample versions inject samples too small to do with a loop injector - as small as .06 µl. Most are also available with the built in purge feature.

VICI diaphragm valves

The mini diaphragm valve has been designed for trouble-free use in the process industry, automated lab analyzers, or continuous-monitoring environmental analyses. Diaphragm valves are available in three configurations - 6 port, 10 port, and 4 port internal sample, with 1/32" or 1/16" fittings.

Step 3: Pick a selector flowpath

Dead-end flowpath (SD)

SD valves select one of 4 to 16 dead-ended streams, directing it through the valve outlet to a sample valve, pressure sensor, detector, column, etc. The same configuration can also direct one stream to a number of outlets for fraction collection.

Common outlet flowpath (SC)

SC selectors are similar to SDs. They select one of 4 to 16 streams, with the selected stream flowing from the valve outlet to a sample valve, pressure sensor, detector, column, etc. The non-selected streams flow to a common outlet, instead of being dead-ended as in the SD model.

Flow-through flowpath (SF)

SD and SC valves select and isolate one of 4 to 16 streams, with the remainder dead-ended in the SD and flowing to a common outlet in the SC. The SF selector is similar, but carries the evolution a step further with the non-selected streams flowing through individual outlets.

Trapping flowpath (ST)

ST selectors are used for multi-column, multi-sample, or multi-trap operations, and are available for use with 4 to 16 loops, or positions. Valves can be ordered with matched loops already installed.

Trapping flow-through flowpath (STF)

The STF selector is a variation of the ST flowpath, with the single difference that the non-selected streams are returned to their own vents or sources rather than being dead-ended or trapped as they are in the standard ST configuration.

Multiposition valves step incrementally through continuous revolutions, selecting one stream and sending it to a common outlet.

Sampling and switching valves

This is the largest category, with 4, 6, 8, or 10 ports and a choice of 1/16" Valco ZDV fittings or 1/4-28 fittings for 1/16" or 1/8" tubing. Rated 75°C at 250 psi liq.

Standard stream selectors

This is the basic Cheminert stream selector, with a choice of 1/4-28 or Valco ZDV fittings and 4, 6, 8, or 10 positions.

Stream selectors with 20, 24, or 26 positions

This model is available only with 1/16" Valco ZDV fittings, and only on a microelectric actuator.

Stream selectors with fittings for 1/4" tubing

This model is also only available with a microelectric actuator, and offers a choice of 4 or 6 sample streams.

Cheminert Nanovolume® injectors and switching valves are ideal for high speed, high throughput techniques which demand a valve and fitting system that minimize internal volume and eliminate dead volume. UHPLC stream or column selectors are available for 4, 6, 8, or 10 streams, with 1/16" or 1/32" fittings and 100, 150, or 250 micron bore.

Cheminert two position

The Cheminert line ranges from nanovolume injectors with injection volumes as low as 4 nanoliters to standard 4, 6, 8, and 10 port injectors and valves. This very deep line also includes microbore valves, continuous flow injectors, and a through-the-handle injector, as well as injectors designed for use with autosamplers. Valves feature 1/32" and 1/16" fittings, with bore sizes from 0.10 mm (.004") to 0.75 mm (.030").

Valco two position

Models are available with 1/32", 1/16", or 1/8" fittings and 4, 6, 8, or 10 ports. Bore sizes range from 0.25 mm (.010") to 1.7 mm (.067"). Best suited for traditional HPLC applications with 100 bar columns.

Selectors (multiposition valves)

Multiposition valves step incrementally through continuous revolutions, with a choice of dead-end stream selector or trapping flowpath. The trapping flowpath is also a good choice for column selection.

Nanovolume® injectors and valves

With a uniform 100 °l flowpath and port-to-port volume of less than 25 nl, the Cheminert nanovolume injectors and switching valves are ideal for high speed, high throughput techniques which demand a valve and fitting system that minimize internal volume and eliminate dead volume. Available in 6 and 10 port versions, as well as 4 port internal sample injectors for injection of samples as small as 4 nanoliters. Rated at 5000 psi.

Specialized 6 port injectors

This category includes a through-the-handle injector, continuous flow injectors, a unique injector with a syringe injection port centered on the rear face of the valve (opposite the handle or actuator), and a model designed specifically for use in an autosampler, which permits the valve and actuator to be installed horizontally while the syringe loads the injector vertically. A sample loop is included with each injector. Available with Nitronic 60 stainless stators and PAEK stators.

Injectors have 1/16" fittings with 1/16" fittings with a choice of .40 mm (0.25 mm column port diameter) or 0.75 mm ports. Rated 75°C at 5000 psi liq.

Sampling and switching valves

This is the largest category, with 4, 6, 8, or 10 ports and a variety of fitting sizes and port diameters for analytical, semi-prep, or preparative HPLC. Rated 75°C at 5000 psi liq. Unless you need the specific application described above, select one of these.

The Cheminert Model C5 with 1/16" Valco ZDV fitting details is available with 4, 6, 8, or 10 positions. Stators are available in Nitronic 60 stainless, titanium, Hastelloy C, or PAEK.

Valco stream selector

Valco SD valves select one of 4 to 12 dead-ended streams. The selected stream flows from the valve outlet to a sample valve, pressure sensor, detector, column, etc. Available with 1/16" or 1/8" Valco ZDV fittings.

Valco trapping/column selector

Valco ST valves are used for multi-column, multi-sample, or multi-trap operations. Available with 1/16" ZDV fittings, for 4 or 6 columns or loops.
